If you painted a dream, which parts would you make look real—and which would you make impossible?

A melting clock or an impossible animal can make us pause and look again. Salvador Dalí’s carefully made dreamlike images offer one doorway into Surrealism, a movement shaped by many artists exploring imagination, chance and unexpected combinations.

This printable Wonder Lesson connects close looking with symbolism and imaginative drawing. The Parent Guide and Wonder Companion Journal help children locate Spain, respond to artworks, let a line travel freely and create their own surprising worlds rather than copy a famous painting.

Look closely, say what you notice and listen to another person’s interpretation. The Parent Guide opens questions while the journal provides room to draw freely, discover shapes and combine ideas in a way that is entirely your own.

There is no requirement to make a perfect picture or reveal a personal dream. Invent a playful impossible scene while awake, choose images that feel comfortable, and let an adult preview artworks and videos before sharing them.

The free companion resources introduce Dalí and the wider Surrealist movement, with an imaginative watercolour activity. Share Little People, BIG DREAMS: Salvador Dalí, Dalí and the Path of Dreams and Just Being Dali, then explore the book-review quiz and Create a Surreal Mash-Up.

Tate Kids offers a route beyond Dalí into other artists. The Dreams of Dalí 360° video is a modern interpretation of a painting; preview it if dream imagery may unsettle your child and choose another resource if needed.
